Community Recreation Curriculum
The community recreation major consists of 33 credit hours of coursework, 30 hours of internship and a minor. Core courses cover such topics as leadership, administration, risk management, promotions, programming and budgeting. A pre-internship class assists in successful internship and career preparation and placement. Emphasis is placed on practical application of current ideas and technologies, extensive contact and involvement with professionals and alumni, and the development of competencies sought by employers.

Before fulfilling the internship requirement, CMU Community Recreation students must have 180 hours of volunteer or employed experience in a recreation setting, 90 hours of which must take place in a community recreation setting. Undergraduate students may earn college credit for supervised field experiences that allow face-to-face leadership opportunities in a recreation setting.

Many CMU students are active in professional associations to assist in their growth and development.
